Career Readiness Training
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
This RI Department of Health-approved course includes 100 hours of live classroom lectures and hands-on lab sessions as well as clinical training in a nursing facility (40 hours). Students learn to provide basic routine nursing-related services to individuals in various healthcare settings.
Certified Medication Technician (CMT)
Our RI Department of Health approved course in partnership with the University of Rhode Island is for active CNAs looking for additional training and licensing in the administration of medications. Students learn how to track and allocate dosages, discover how to prevent infection as part of proper administration of medication to patients, and learn about specific medications and their side effects.
CPR: Heartsaver® CPR/AED
American Heart Association’s video-based, instructor-led course in adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR, and how to relieve choking in adults, children, and infants. For anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Health Care Provider
This class is for health care providers. Participants learn to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early use of an AED.
Food Service & Sanitation
Full Certification: Our state-approved 20-hour ServSafe course is a nationally recognized food safety certification program. You will learn about food safety practices and proper food handling techniques in an individualized, blended learning environment. You will also review in preparation for the state-required test.
Re-Certification: Our state-approved six-hour ServSafe course provides the up-to-date techniques for food safety and proper food handling required every three years in Rhode Island.
Teacher Assistant Training
AIALC is an R.I. Department of Education-approved training site for anyone interested in being employed as a full-time, part-time, or substitute teacher assistant. Our program consists of 45 classroom hours (6 weeks) and includes Northstar Digital Literacy Certificates. Instruction is provided by a multidisciplinary team, and the topics include ParaPro Testing requirements, school policy & procedure, communication skills, instructional technology, supporting students with learning differences, providing behavioral and instructional support, school & workplace, safety, human development, soft skills, career readiness, and diversity.
Electrical Apprentice Training
This program of study satisfies the state requirement for electricians' apprentice educational hours. Each semester is designed to provide the necessary knowledge to progress through the four-year apprenticeship (8 semesters, each consisting of 75 hours for a total: of 576 hours) and lead to passing the state licensing examination. Students need to be an apprentice to take this program. This program is approved by the R.I. Board of Electrical Examiners and the State Apprenticeship Council of the R.I. Department of Labor and Training.
Apprentice Training
Plumbing Apprentice Training
This comprehensive program of study satisfies the state requirement for plumbers’ apprentice educational hours. Classes are designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge to progress through the four-year (8 semesters) apprenticeship and help prepare students to pass the state licensing examination. This program is approved by the State Apprenticeship Council of the R.I. Department of Labor and Training.
Pipefitting Apprentice Training
This program of study satisfies the state requirement for pipefitters' apprentice educational hours. Each semester is designed to provide the necessary knowledge to progress through the two-year (Pipefitter Journeyperson - Class II) apprenticeship (4 semesters, each consisting of 72 hours for a total of 288 hours) and/or the additional three-year (Pipefitter Journeyperson - Class I) apprenticeship (6 semesters, each consisting of 72 hours for a total of 432 hours) and lead to passing the respective state licensing examination. Topics include IMC definitions; math operations: additional, subtraction, multiplication, and division; gas pipe sizing; venting; blueprint reading; formulas, area/capacity of tanks; piping supports; notching/boring holes; Manual J8 computing; heat loss calculations; duct sizing; fin tubes; and state boiler regulations. This program is approved by the State Apprenticeship Council of the R.I. Department of Labor and Training.
